The Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2025 marks an important milestone in the journey of the national sharia economy. Over the course of 12 years, ISEF has become a major catalyst in strengthening Indonesia's sharia economic and financial ecosystem, from Islamic boarding schools to the international stage.

First held in 2014 by Bank Indonesia, ISEF has grown from a local forum into a global platform that brings together regulators, business actors, academics, and Islamic communities from various countries. Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo called ISEF a tangible manifestation of the collective commitment to building an inclusive and competitive Islamic economy. “Synergy between the Islamic Economy and Finance Strengthens Independence and Inclusive Economic Growth,” said Perry Warjiyo.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto also said that the Islamic economy is now the engine of growth towards the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision. “The Islamic economy is not just an alternative, but has become the mainstream of national development. ISEF is clear evidence that Indonesia has great potential to become the center of gravity for the global Islamic economy,” said Airlangga.

For more than a decade, ISEF has given birth to various strategic initiatives, including the integration of the Sharia Economic Festival (FESyar) in three regions as a foundation for literacy and inclusion; the development of sharia monetary instruments such as Bank Indonesia Sukuk and SBSN; Modest Fashion, which has become an international stage for Indonesian designers; the digitization of ZISWAF and the launch of a national database of productive waqf; the 2025-2029 Indonesian Sharia Economic and Financial Master Plan (MEKSI) as a long-term policy direction; and other strategic initiatives to strengthen Indonesia's Sharia Economy and Finance.

During the 12 years of ISEF's implementation, various achievements and activities have been successfully recorded. In terms of scale and participation, ISEF has organized more than 1,200 activities since its inception, involving more than 100,000 participants from within and outside the country, as well as collaborating with many national and international institutions. In terms of innovation and digitalization, ISEF has encouraged the launch of a halal hub digital platform and sharia marketplace, as well as implementing QRIS Syariah and the digitalization of ZISWAF services.

ISEF also plays a major role in encouraging the growth of the halal industry and sharia MSMEs. Thousands of local businesses have gained access to financing, export training, and halal product curation. The ISEF halal value chain exhibition has become a showcase for innovations in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, and sharia tourism sectors.

Strengthening the sharia economic ecosystem is also a major focus, with the formation of a halal value chain from upstream to downstream, as well as synergy between Islamic boarding schools, MSMEs, and sharia financial institutions. ISEF's international presence is reflected in its active participation in global sharia economic forums such as the OIC and IsDB, as well as the appearance of ISEF Modest Fashion on the international stage in London, Dubai, and Istanbul.

In the field of literacy and education, ISEF has organized thousands of training sessions, seminars, and workshops on Islamic economic literacy, as well as published books, modules, and Islamic economic curricula for various levels of education.

In line with these efforts, at the 2025 ISEF event, four strategic program commitments were launched to advance the national Islamic economy, namely the 2025-2029 Indonesian Islamic Economy and Finance Masterplan (MEKSI); Central-Regional Collaboration Synergy in Eksyar Development; SukBI Plus as an extension of the Bank Indonesia Sukuk feature; and an integrated ZISWAF database. These four strategic programs are in line with the development plans of the central and regional governments while also supporting the Government's Asta Cita program.

ISEF 2025 is a moment for reflection and forward projection. With a spirit of unity, Bank Indonesia, together with strategic partners from ministries/institutions, the financial industry, and associations such as IAEI, is committed to making the Islamic economy a main pillar of Indonesia Emas 2045.

Through collaboration via ISEF, we continue to strengthen economic independence and national growth through three main pillars: strengthening the halal supply chain, Islamic finance, and Islamic economic literacy and inclusion. ISEF 2025 is a significant milestone in Indonesia's journey toward an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable Islamic economic ecosystem.
