The year 2020, which began with high optimism among Indonesian Sharia economic stakeholders, who had just launched the Indonesian Sharia Economic and Financial Masterplan (MEKSI) 2020-2024, has turned into a very challenging year. The Covid-19 pandemic that has swept across the globe has resulted in major changes not only in the health aspect, where millions of the world's population have been infected by this virus, but also in the economic aspect. The World Bank even projects that global economic growth in 2020 will contract by 5.2%.
Various sectors in the Islamic economy are also feeling the impact of this global pandemic. The halal tourism sector is reported to be one of the sectors that has been hit hard, as one way to break the chain of the spread of this virus is to limit human movement including in traveling. However, sectors such as halal food and pharmaceuticals have seen an increase in demand domestically and globally. In addition, the Islamic philanthropy sector is also reported to be growing rapidly, in line with people's increasing concern and urge to help others in need.
