The Executive Board (DPP) of the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) held a gathering with Islamic economics academics from various universities in North Sumatra, resulting in the formation of a preparatory committee for the Regional Conference (Muswil) to establish the new leadership of the IAEI North Sumatra Regional Chapter (DPW). The meeting took place on Thursday (July 16) at the Auditorium Building of the University of Islam North Sumatra (UISU) in Medan and was attended by 37 lecturers and Islamic economics scholars from 15 universities across North Sumatra.

This gathering was part of a regional consolidation agenda aimed at reactivating the IAEI leadership in North Sumatra. IAEI Executive Vice Chair Agustianto Mingka attended the meeting on behalf of the IAEI Central Executive Board (DPP), presenting an overview of IAEI, the organization’s vision and mission, work programs, future plans, and the current structure of the IAEI Central Executive Board. According to Agustianto, consolidating Islamic economics scholars in the region is a crucial step toward strengthening the IAEI’s role in the development of Islamic economics and finance in Indonesia.

“The IAEI must serve as a unifying hub for scholars, researchers, practitioners, and thinkers in Islamic economics to collectively advance Islamic economics in Indonesia,” said Agustianto.

The representatives in attendance came from a number of universities in North Sumatra, including the University of Islam North Sumatra (UISU), the University of North Sumatra (USU), the Muhammadiyah University of North Sumatra (UMSU), the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU), Al Washliyah University, Harapan University of Medan, the State University of Medan (UNIMED), Dharmawangsa University, Medan Area University, Panca Budi University, Medan State Polytechnic, STAI Al-Islahiyah Binjai, STAIN Mandailing Natal (STAIN Madina), STEBIS Al-Ulum Terpadu Medan, and UMN Al Washliyah. In addition to the university delegates, the forum was also attended by the administration and alumni of the Islamic Economics Doctoral Program at UIN North Sumatra.

During the meeting, it was agreed to form a preparatory committee for the North Sumatra IAEI Regional Chapter (DPW) Regional Conference, which will involve representatives from various universities and Islamic economics scholars in North Sumatra. The 37 lecturers and scholars in attendance are expected to participate in the consolidation process and preparations for the formation of the new leadership.

The formation of this Regional Congress preparatory team is seen as the first step toward reestablishing the presence of IAEI North Sumatra as a forum for Islamic economics scholars to promote the development of knowledge, research, and education, as well as to strengthen the Islamic economic and financial ecosystem in North Sumatra.

With the support of scholars from various universities, IAEI North Sumatra is expected to once again play an active role in addressing the various challenges and opportunities in the development of the Islamic economy, both at the regional and national levels.
