The Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/Head of Bappenas, represented by the Deputy for Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, Dr. Vivi Yulaswati, was a speaker at the prominent scholar session of the National Working Meeting (Rakernas) of the Indonesian Islamic Economists Association (IAEI) on Friday (28/11) at The Ritz-Carlton Jakarta Ballroom. Discussing the theme of Islamic Economic Development Planning Towards Indonesia Emas 2045, Bappenas emphasized that Islamic economic values and instruments have a strategic role in accelerating the achievement of the vision and direction of Islamic economic development policies in the future.
In her presentation, Dr. Vivi Yulaswati emphasized that the principles of justice, balance, and benefit, which form the foundation of Islamic economics, have been present since the time of the Prophet Muhammad, including market regulation, the prohibition of usury, and profit-sharing practices. These principles continue to evolve in the modern financial system through the establishment of the first Islamic bank in 1992, the acceleration of Islamic banking regulations, and the growth of the halal lifestyle ecosystem, the digitization of zakat, and Islamic MSMEs.
“Islamic economics is developing not only because of sectoral needs, but because people are looking for an ethical, stable, and prosperous financial system,” she said.
Dr. Vivi also stated that Islamic economic values are in line with the three main priorities of national development to reduce poverty and inequality, improve the quality of human resources, and achieve high and sustainable economic growth.
Islamic economics supports equity through zakat, infaq, and waqf; encourages productive investment through profit-sharing mechanisms; and promotes sustainability through the prohibition of exploitation and the principle of environmental protection. All of these values serve as accelerators for achieving the goals of Indonesia Emas 2045, including per capita income on par with developed countries and strengthening global competitiveness.
Islamic economic instruments have a real contribution to economic productivity. The mechanisms of zakat and sharia social funds ensure inclusive income distribution; the prohibition of usury, gambling, and uncertainty encourages healthy transactions and eliminates unproductive speculation; while muamalah instruments foster cooperation and justice in business activities.
These instruments, according to him, are the main force behind the integration of the Islamic economy into priority sectors such as agriculture, health, education, manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and the creative economy.
In front of the IAEI National Working Meeting participants, Dr. Vivi said that achieving Indonesia's vision as a global Islamic economic center, which is in line with the theme of the National Working Meeting, cannot be done partially, but requires collaboration from all stakeholders.
IAEI welcomes the commitment of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas to strengthen the direction of Islamic economic development that is more structured, data-driven, and in line with the national agenda. The National Conference serves as a meeting point for policymakers, academics, and industry players to ensure that the Islamic economy plays a strategic role in realizing Indonesia Emas 2045.
