The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) Siliwangi University Branch, in collaboration with the IAEI Central Executive Board (DPP), held a national seminar entitled “The Role of Sharia Economics in Supporting Renewable Energy Policy in Indonesia” on Tuesday (17/06). This event is part of a national roadshow series aimed at enhancing public awareness of the role of Islamic economics in strategic national issues, particularly in the development of sustainable energy.
The event, held at the Auditorium on the 3rd floor of the Rectorate Building at Campus II of Siliwangi University, was officially opened by the Rector of Siliwangi University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nundang Busaeri, M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng., and featured competent speakers, including Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat, MBA, and Rahman Wahyudi. The seminar was moderated by Dr. Lina Marlina, M.Ag., and attended by representatives from the Mayor of Tasikmalaya, officials from the Financial Services Authority, leaders of Islamic banking institutions, and hundreds of participants from the academic community and students, predominantly young people.
In his opening remarks, the Rector of Siliwangi University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nundang Busaeri, M.T., IPU., ASEAN Eng., stated that “This seminar is a concrete contribution from UNSIL in expanding public awareness of the potential synergy between Islamic economics and renewable energy policies. This theme was chosen in line with the increasing urgency of developing renewable energy in Indonesia as part of the sustainable development agenda.” he concluded.
Head of the Islamic Economics Department, Dr. Lina Marlina, M.Ag., explained that the event aimed to correct the public’s perception that Islamic economics only plays a role in the financial sector. In fact, the Islamic approach also has strong relevance in resource management and the development of environmentally friendly alternative energy.
“Through this forum, we aim to raise awareness among the younger generation about the importance of energy efficiency and the strategic role of Islamic economics in supporting national policies related to renewable energy,” she stated. She also emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration between Islamic economics and engineering in research and the development of sustainable energy solutions.
This seminar further solidifies Siliwangi University’s commitment as a higher education institution that not only excels in the development of knowledge but is also responsive to global issues such as climate change, energy sustainability, and social justice.
