The launch of the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2024/2025 reaffirms Indonesia's position as one of the major players in the global Islamic economy. The report, themed “From Crisis to Catalyst: Evolving Islamic Economy Opportunity,” was officially launched at the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas office in Jakarta on Tuesday (June 8), highlighting the transformation of Islamic economic opportunities amid the global crisis.
The 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, and Chairman of the IAEI Advisory Board for the 2019-2025 period, Prof. Dr. (H.C.) K.H. Ma’ruf Amin, stated in his speech that Indonesia has significant capital, both demographically and morally, to lead the mainstream of the global Islamic economy. “Indonesia has the moral and demographic legitimacy to become the global center of Islamic economics,” Ma’ruf Amin emphasized.
The SGIE report, compiled by DinarStandard in collaboration with the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre, serves as an annual strategic benchmark for measuring the performance and trends of the global Islamic economy across sectors: halal food, Islamic finance, modest fashion, halal cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, halal media and recreation, and Muslim-friendly tourism.
This year, Indonesia ranks third in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator, having consistently risen over the past few years. Indonesia even secured the top global position in the halal media and recreation sector, and holds a top-two position in the halal food and Islamic finance sectors.
The launch of the SGIE 2024/2025 Report is not merely an annual agenda but a representation of the significant transformation being driven by Indonesia on the global Islamic economy stage. IAEI believes that through collaboration and a long-term vision, Indonesia is not only ready to compete but also poised to become a global leader.
