The International Conference on Islamic Economics and Finance (ICIEF) was held for the 15th time on February 20-22, 2024 at Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The agenda was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato Seri Haji Anwar bin Ibrahim.
At this 15th ICIEF event, IAEI became one of the strategic partners for the annual agenda where academics, researchers, practitioners and policy makers meet globally, discussing the various challenges of Islamic Economics in the future under conditions called: Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) as well as optimizing all resources to develop Islamic Economics.
The conference gathered nearly 500 participants from local and international communities including Indonesia, Pakistan, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Turkey, India, United States, Nigeria, Norway, Germany, India and several other countries.
The 15th ICIEF carries the theme "Driving the Agenda for a Sustainable Humane Economy". The recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the financial and economic crisis plus the challenges of climate change provide opportunities for member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to apply Islamic economics and finance as a local approach to shape economic policy making.
The operationalization of the relationship between the theoretical basis of IEF (Islamic economics and finance) and its application requires greater attention to achieve great success. The increasing complexity of the world, inter- and trans-connectivity demands the best planning to develop responsive and accountable IEF.
This conference is organized with the aim to focus on strategies and way forward to develop a more integrated, sustainable and humane economics and finance ecosystem. Collaboration between academia, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies is essential to realize the vision of a sustainable humane economy, including the support of collaborative research, especially in the areas of Islamic and social economics.
"I would like to see academia, industry and policymakers working together to build and realize a future where Islamic economics and finance is not just an alternative, but a solution capable of delivering real and substantive results - alleviating poverty, creating jobs with human dignity and generating shared prosperity with equality," said Malaysia's Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when opening the event.
