The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) in collaboration with the Centre for Sharia Economics and Business (PEBS) of the University of Indonesia organised the Policy-Oriented Research in Islamic Economics and Finance Conference (PRIME) with the theme "On the Development of Islamic Economic Policies for a More Sustainable Post-Pandemic Recovery" which will take place on 17-18 July 2023 at the R. Soeria Atmadja Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia.
PRIME Conference aims to build public awareness, especially among academics, of the importance of conducting research oriented towards the formulation of applicable and impactful policies in the public sector. The conference offers a series of events involving academics, industry practitioners and government to bridge the gap between academic research and decision-making.
The two-day PRIME Conference 2023 event featured speakers representing policymakers from leading institutions in Indonesia and internationally, including Astera Primanto Bhakti from the Ministry of Finance, Professor Habib Ahmed from Durham University, UK; Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D.. as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia; Widya Paramita, Ph.D as Editor in Chief of Journal of Indonesian Economy and Business (JIEB); Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik as Vice Chairman of IAEI; Dr Rahmatina A. Kasri as Chairman of PEBS UI; and Professor Raditya Sukmana as Head of Research and Scientific Development of IAEI.
During these two days there will also be a parallel session of 12 finalists who have been selected from 221 participants, who come from several countries besides Indonesia such as the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Pakistan, Thailand and Malaysia. The 12 finalists will present their papers in front of the jury, reviewers and conference participants and then the 2 best papers will be announced as the winners of the PRIME 2023 Call for Paper.
For Islamic economics and finance to contribute more to Indonesia's economic development, high-quality policy-oriented research is urgently needed. Unfortunately, the number of such studies is still small. Another problem is that the results of policy-oriented research are often ignored by policymakers. Therefore, the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) initiated the PRIME Conference & Call for Paper agenda.
