The Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian Islamic Economists Association in the United Kingdom (IAEI-UK) held an Annual Opening 2024 as well as an International Studium Generale with the theme of Islamic Political Economy and Responses to Economic Social and Political Crises on Saturday (17/1) virtually. On this occasion, IAEI Deputy Secretary General II, Hidayat Amir, Ph.D delivered a speech and Prof. Mehmet Asutay, as Professor of Middle Eastern & Islamic Political Economy and Finance, Durham University as well as the IAEI-UK Advisory Board.
In his presentation, the Deputy Secretary General II of IAEI said that Islamic economics has become an endogenous part of the economy and development of the Indonesian nation, long before the development of Islamic banks. This means that developing the Islamic economy is the same as developing the nation's economy as a whole. The government will continue to encourage the progress of Islamic economics in Indonesia, of course through synergy with IAEI-UK and other organizations.
The presence of IAEI-UK as part of IAEI is very important for the development of Islamic economics in Indonesia, in expanding the perspective of the Indonesian diaspora in seeing Indonesia's economic conditions more clearly. In addition, the multidisciplinary approach taken by IAEI-UK in its thinking paradigm should be appreciated. Because economic problems in Indonesia are very complex and require integration of various perspectives and expertise in solving existing problems comprehensively and effectively.
The existence of the IAEI network in the global arena has an important mission to promote Islamic economics more broadly. Not only limited to the theory and discussion of halal-haram, but further able to implement Islamic values such as justice, mutual cooperation, and efficiency which are the foundation of Islamic Economics. And must be able to provide innovative science that can stimulate intellectual development in Islamic economic thought.
"Hopefully, with the IAEI-UK board spread across various cities and campuses, from the north to the south of Great Britain, this shows the organization's ability to work together very well. The programs that have been produced, in the form of dialectics, including study mentoring programs and scholarships to the UK that are carried out intensively, are clear evidence of the professionalism and positive impact that IAEI-UK has provided." Said Hidayat Amir in appreciating the performance of IAEI-UK that has been running.
