The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI), in collaboration with Gunadarma University, is championing the resilience of Indonesia’s Sharia economy amidst global economic dynamics. This initiative was highlighted during the National Seminar on "Sharia Economic Resilience in Facing Global Dynamics," held in conjunction with the inauguration of the Regional Leadership Board and several Greater Jakarta chapters at the Gunadarma University F8 Campus Auditorium, Jakarta, on Thursday (August 20).
Prof. Mukhamad Najib, Deputy Secretary-General of IAEI and Director of Institutional Affairs at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, emphasized the importance of building a Sharia economy that is not only capable of growth but also possesses the resilience to withstand global changes. "The question is not merely how fast the Sharia economy grows, but how resilient it is in contributing to a world that is fairer, more inclusive, and more resilient," stated Prof. Najib.
According to him, a fundamental source of strength for the Sharia economy lies in the principle of justice. "The Sharia economy is not solely oriented toward profit-driven transactions and financial needs; it is also closely linked to the real sector and the public good," he asserted.
During the seminar sessions, speakers emphasized the importance of strengthening the Sharia economy's position as an integral part of the national economic ecosystem. Prof. Muhammad Nur Rianto Al Arif highlighted the need to respond to global economic dynamics and domestic challenges, while Mahaning Riyana underscored the role of technological innovation and fintech in enhancing efficiency and connectivity. In a similar vein, Prof. R.R. Dharma Tintri Ediraras advocated for a paradigm shift, urging the Sharia economy to move beyond mere compliance and become integrated into broader economic policies and practices.
