Indonesia once again ranked third in the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) Report 2024/2025 released by DinarStandard. This achievement marks Indonesia's consistency for three consecutive years as one of the countries with the strongest Islamic economic ecosystem in the world, behind Malaysia and Saudi Arabia.
The SGIE Report assesses countries' performance in seven key sectors: halal food, Islamic finance, Muslim-friendly tourism, modest fashion, halal cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, media and recreation, and halal investment. The assessment is conducted through the Global Islamic Economy Indicator (GIEI) which combines data on trade, policy, innovation, and investment.
Indonesia shows excellence in the modest fashion sector (ranked 1st), Muslim-friendly tourism (ranked 2nd), and halal cosmetics and pharmaceuticals (ranked 2nd). However, challenges remain in the halal food sector (ranked 4th), Islamic finance (ranked 6th) and leisure media (ranked 7th).
Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin called this achievement a “moral legitimization” for Indonesia to lead the global Islamic economy. The government has integrated the direction of Islamic economic policy in the 2025-2045 RPJPN and 2025-2029 RPJMN, focusing on the real sector, halal industry, and Islamic social finance.
"Indonesia must not be satisfied in the third position. We must be the leader of the world's Islamic economy," Ma'ruf Amin said in a press release.
