The Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) in collaboration with the Centre for Sharia Economics and Business (PEBS) of the University of Indonesia is organising the Policy-Oriented Research in Islamic Economics and Finance Conference (PRIME) with the theme "On the Development of Islamic Economic Policies for a More Sustainable Post-Pandemic Recovery" which will take place on 17-18 July 2023 at the R. Soeria Atmadja Auditorium, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia.
High-quality policy-oriented research is urgently needed so that Islamic economics and finance can contribute more to Indonesia's economic development. The lack of policy-oriented research that penetrates into a policy product is behind the organisation of the PRIME Conference by the Indonesian Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI).
Secretary General of IAEI, Astera Primanto Bhakti in his presentation explained that Islamic economics is ultimately present to answer socio-economic issues in society. This is why applied knowledge should be shaped by policy-oriented research conducted by Islamic economists in partnership with policymakers, industry, and donors, in accordance with the N-Helix collaboration principle. True to its name, the PRIME Conference aims to galvanise researchers, academics, and experts in Islamic economics to conduct policy-oriented research to solve real-world problems.
"Questions on how Islamic economics offers policies to combat issues such as inflation, inequality, hunger, and climate change need to be answered by Islamic economists", said Astera Primanto Bhakti.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Arief Wibisono Lubis, Ph.D in his speech said that the conference is a platform for experts and scholars to share knowledge, experiences, and insights to explore innovative ideas and best practices that can guide us in formulating economic policies that prioritise people's welfare, promote social justice, and protect the environment by embedding Islamic economic principles.
The two-day PRIME Conference 2023 event features speakers representing academia, industry and government practitioners from leading institutions in Indonesia and internationally. During these two days there will also be parallel sessions from 12 finalists who have been selected from 221 participants, who come from several countries besides Indonesia such as the United Kingdom, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Pakistan, Thailand and Malaysia.
